Once again it’s time for weight training and preparing for tryouts for Grand Junction High School’s boys lacrosse team.

Kolton Flick, sophomore, was excited to get started, saying, “I think it will be really good. We may have a few glitches at first, from all of new kids coming in, but overall it should be great.”

The boys are psyched to return to the field and start practice again, as well as reuniting with coach Tim Foster. Foster is admired for his fairness and equality among the team.

“Tim (Foster) always made sure we were all playing as much as possible. If I wasn’t in for goalie, I’d be in for defense and vice-versa,” said Flick.

Lacrosse is all about endurance and skill. Practices are hard but rewarding.

Evan Mok-Lamme, also a sophomore, said, “It’s fast and it’s a skill sport. You can’t just have muscle to play.”

Flick also said, “Our regular practice is getting pummeled by solid rubber ball going 90 miles per hour, unless you’re Kris (States). Then it goes 100.”

But don’t let those facts scare you away. The team is still looking for new members. If you have questions about joining in the fun, talk with lacrosse members, or contact the school activities office.

A billboard on Interstate 70 has created uproar between Democrats and Republicans in the state of Colorado.

The billboard depicts President Barack Obama as a Mexican bandit, a gangster, a homosexual man and a terrorist all playing poker together at a table.

The words, “Vote DemocRAT” and “Join the Game” are written on the picture.

Above the “Obamas” are 2 vultures and there are rats crawling beneath their card game.

“I like the comedic expression,” junior Zach Romero said, “It doesn’t fit Obama though, but it does seem that he’s not getting things done properly.”

According to myfoxchicago.com, the artist who created this drawing and the renter who paid for it received death threats if they did not take it down. The artist refused to reveal who paid him to make the billboard.

“It’s friggin’ awesome. Obama’s idea to build a Muslim temple at ground zero is messed up,” Freshman Dain Lewis, Republican, said.

The billboard illustrates a demeaning and disrespectful message. It remains offensive to Mexicans, immigrants from the Middle East and to homosexuals.

Latin teacher Patricia Holcomb, strongly dislikes the idea behind the billboard.

“This is very derogatory, and depicts a horrible attitude of the election. It’s teaching bad manners to youth of our nation. Whether you like (Obama) or not, this is still nasty,” Holcomb said.

The billboard was taken down and people clearly did not agree with its meaning-thankfully.

Barack Obama, like any other President of the United States, is trying to rebuild and stabilize our country after President George W. Bush’s term.

No one can perfect a country this damaged in just 2 years.

Obama needs to be credited for his efforts so far.

Even if you’re a Democrat or a Republican, any President deserves respect no matter his ethnicity because he has taken the role for leading our nation.
